This deep gold colored brew has a strong citrusy flowery hop aroma. The intense hop bitterness and flavor is backed by medium maltiness and body. Our IPA is hopped seven times during the boil with Summit, CTZ, Centenial, lots of Cascade, and dry-hopped (adding hops directly to the beer post fermentation) for additional character. Special Forces IPA is left unfiltered to lock in all the hop freshness.

Special Forces IPA was named in honor of a local US Army Special Forces Ranger.

Crown Brewing is proud to honor all the men and women that serve and protect our great country. Please support your local Heroes!

The Crown Brown is gorgeous dark brown ale which has a gentle malt sweetness supported by a nutty, light caramel character that lasts throughout the pint.

It is brewed with imported English Maris Otter Barley Malt and Fuggle hops giving it a dry finish and low hop bitterness making it readily suited for any time of day or night.

Brew Fun: Pints and Quarts

In English pubs, ale is ordered by pints and quarts. So in old England, when customers got unruly, the bartender would yell at them to mind their own pints and quarts and settle down. It's where we get the phrase "mind your P's and Q's".

Our Double or Imperial IPA has intense hop bitterness, flavor, and aroma, and is balanced by a full malty body with a notably evident complex alcohol flavor.

Brewed entirely with CTZ hops (lots of them) and dry-hopped in the fermenter with more CTZ. Kill ‘Em Ale is double dry-hopped with Glacier hops in the serving tank.

Brew Debate: Where did the Double IPA come from?

It is believed by many that the origins of the Double IPA came about from a brewer in California accidentally adding 50% too much malt to his mash. To correct this he added 100% more hops. The result was a strong and much loved brew by many hopheads. This metric (50% more malt, 100% more hops) is the basic guideline behind the style. - Wikipedia

Brew Humor: Why Coffee Is Better Than Women...

A cup of coffee looks good in the morning.
You can make coffee as sweet as you want.
You can always get fresh coffee.
You can turn the pot on, leave the room, and it’ll be hot when you get back.
No matter how ugly you are, you can always get a cup of coffee.
Your coffee doesn’t talk to you.
Coffee doesn’t care what kind of mood you’re in.
Coffee is ready in 15 minutes or less.
Coffee doesn’t take up half your bed.
Coffee doesn’t mind if you wake up at 3 AM and decide to have a cup.
Your coffee won’t be jealous of a larger cup.

Summer

When the sun breaks through the clouds and the sounds of summer begin to rise it is time for our light and wonderfully refreshing Weizenheimer Weiss.

This German Style Hefe-Weiss is brewed with 50% German malted wheat and German Pilsner malt. Unfiltered and slightly cloudy, it has the traditional banana and clove aroma of a classic wheat beer. It is perfect on long hot days.

Brew Etiquette: To Lemon or NOT to Lemon...

In the world of wheat beers this can be a touchy subject for many people. There are those that must have a slice of lemon even though it kills the head and alters the intended flavors. While others want to experience the unique yeast flavors unfiltered and at their fullest. Which side are you on?

Lore and Legend: Trappist monks have to take vow of silence?

The life of the Trappist is guided by the Rule of St. Benedict and he insisted on silence. However they do not take a vow of silence. Trappist monks will generally only speak when necessary, and idle talk is strongly discouraged.

Also of the world's 171 Trappist monasteries only seven of them produce beer and are authorized to label their beers with the Authentic Trappist Product logo.  - Wikipedia

Root Beer Fun: Shakespeare drank it?

There are early historical documents in which Shakespeare is noted to have drank "small beers." This European brew, actually made from an early colonial American recipe, contained 2%-12% alcohol, and was considered a light, social drink made from herbs, berries and bark. This eventually led to the modern day formula for root beer, minus the alcohol of course.

Spring

Jailhouse Bock is a strong German lager of dopple (double) strength, without the heavy body.

It has a brilliant light amber color and a sweet malty aroma. This beer is well-aged having a malt dominated flavor with a touch of Saaz hops to balance it all out. It is a great way to welcome the arrival of spring.

Brew Term: Doppelbock (double bock)

The monks of St. Francis of Paula in Munich crafted a rich dark beer called Salvator to help sustain them during periods of fasting. The beers had high levels of protein and carbohydrates from the mash, monks considered it "liquid bread". Once the beer was made public to the people of Munich, they noted the similarities to bock and started calling it doppelbock.

Our Celtic Pride Stout is dark, almost black, ale with an extremely rich, malty, chocolate-coffee-like aroma and flavor.

The oatmeal used to craft the brew creates a silky smooth mouthfeel and the malty sweetness lingers deliciously on the tongue after each swallow.

Brew Term: Stout

Originally, the adjective stout meant "proud" or "brave," but later, after the 14th century, it took on the connotation of "strong." The first known use of the word stout for beer was in a document dated 1677. - Wikipedia

Celtic Coffee Stout is a combination of our Celtic Pride Stout and real brewed coffee. The result of this infusion is a beer that has an amazing aroma, full flavor, and smooth mouthfeel. Brew Humor: Beer Drinking Test

A Texan walks into a pub in Ireland and offers to give $500 dollars to anybody who can drink 10 pints of stout back-to-back. The room goes quiet and no one takes up the offer. One man even leaves. Thirty minutes later the man returns and taps the Texan on the shoulder and says he will take the bet. So the bartender lines up 10 pints and the man drinks them all back-to-back. The pub patrons cheer as the Texan sits in amazement. After paying the man, he asks him where he had gone? The Irishman replies, "Oh...I had to go to the pub down the street to see if I could do it first."

We are part of Illinois Craft Brewers Guilds’ Replicale project. Every year at least a dozen breweries brew the same recipe.

This year it is an American Pale Ale. Every participating brewery used a different single variety of hop. Crown Brewing used all Horizon hops in making this wonderful brew. It has a pronounced nose and palate of somewhat sweet orange hops. Enjoy while you can!
